New 1 day AIIM PDF/Archive Training Program

AIIM intends to introduce a new PDF/A training in Q1 2008. This one day training will be completely focused on PDF/A (ISO 19005-1) and its use as a file format in the archiving of data. After the training the trainee should be able to talk knowledgeable about PDF/A, the business case for such a format and its role in the overall keeping of documents and records.

AIIM is the leading authority for PDF standards responsible for the majority of the PDF family of standards which includes PDF, PDF/E, PDF/UA, PDF Healthcare and of course PDF/A. The concept of PDF/Archive began as an AIIM standards committee in late 2002 and rapidly grew into the ISO standard. European Expansion

Greenworld_3We are approaching almost 2 years of AIIM Education Programs. Thousands of students have passed through ECM, ERM and now IOA and BPM as well. In Europe we have been moving forwards into the premier spot as a training provider. With private courses in almost all main European countries in 2007, 2008 is going to be another year of growth. With new Partnerships in Germany, Netherlands and the UK that allow us to reach further into the organisations that want to get their information under control. Public courses in the next year are going to be held in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany and dates will be published here.

AIIMs Education Program is rapidly becoming the industry standard for both traditional trade and consultancy customers, as well as within end-user organizations. What characterizes these companies ? They are of all sizes, with either no projects, or in the middle of the project, or right after a implementation. There are experienced and inexperienced Consultants, Project Managers, Information Architects, Records manager, IT and business people. Each of these groups draws different things out of these Educational Programs but are universally pleased with what they have learned. Quite a few end up sending colleagues to the next class so that everyone starts talking the same language and has the same understanding of the content of the programs in their own organisations.

So if you are looking for a public or private class on ECM, ERM, BPM, Information Organization and Access in Europe, Middle-East or Africa. Or you want to be part of a Best Practise course with discussions amongst your equally well-informed and interested peers, come and check with us for a course near you.

The Value of Training

Learning “So you think you know it all?”

Last week I was teaching a group of implementation and pre-sales specialists from an international vendor. We breezed through the material as the knowledge level in the room was extremely high and most of the subjects from the ECM Practitioner already known to the participants.

At the end I asked the group about the value of such a training, considering the vast amount of experience already present. The answer was a very strong yes, the training is important and valuable.

Here are some of the reasons why even experienced operators should consider our training :

  • Confirming what they already known, but also confirming the things they didn’t know because it doesn’t touch their daily jobs
  • Building a common vocabulary with the rest of the market - Most of the people have a mixed bag of experience and names and abbreviations have changed or have been added to over time.
  • Looking beyond technologies to processes and strategies – especially for the group of pre-sales and technical consultants this was important addition to their skill set.
  • Independent accreditation – with AIIM quickly become the number one provider of independent industry certification it is important even for experienced operators to get this
  • Evaluating the training for channel, customers and less experienced colleagues – the conclusion being that if pre-sales and implementers now have this common vocabulary, then direct and indirect sales need to have the same knowledge.

And I would like to add one additional factor to this : For vendors that move from traditional vertical software markets like Document Management or Workflow and now are slowly moving towards a more universal and strategic approach and Enterprise Content Management, our trainings form an ideal basis to start from and to get to grips with everything that is involved in ECM.

And now, with the expanded offering we cover an even wider range of subjects, including ECM, ERM, BPM and IOA, it is time to reconsider your own skill set and maybe add some AIIM certificates to your knowledge.

Interested ? Then check our one of our classroom courses on www.aiim.org/education or www.aiim.eu/training.
