A recent study by AIIM Market IQ titled Business Process Management: Leveraging Competencies and Streamlining Processes to Achieve Operational Excellence ( http://www.aiim.org/ResourceCenter/Research/MarketIQ.aspx# ) indicates that 44% of those asked indicate they have not yet begun any significant BPM project but intend to do so within a year.
When those who have implemented were asked about the focus of their projects 31% indicated a transactional focus, 20% focused on content centric processes while 37% indicate a balance between the two. When asked about implementation times, the range reflects up to five years with the heaviest concentration of responses at 30%, falling in the 1 - 2 year segment. When asked how long they had been using BPM, 60% indicate 2 years or less.
I have seen significant interest in BPM from the user community over the past year indicating a greater acceptance and better understanding of value. Where do you fit in this? Are you looking at or have you implemented a BPM solution? What are your expectations and realities? How did you approach it and what would you do different?
I look forward to hearing from you and for those of you on the cusp of moving in this direction, the possibility of seeing you in one of our classes.

Great report. Very insightful. I have blogged on it at http://bpmfundamentals.wordpress.com/2008/11/21/bpm-adoption-and-delivered-value-market-research-and-analysis/
